2017 High School Mission Trip

College Hill & Old Greenwich Presbyterian Churches’
High School Mission Trip
Sunday, July 30 – Saturday, August 5, 2017

Our Joint High School Youth Group Is planning a trip to the Jersey Shore this summer.  We will spend the week working with  local families  to help rebuild  homes after the hurricane.

In October of 2012 Hurricane Sandy began its destructive path in the Caribbean and continued up the eastern coast of the US until it met with another storm and became “Superstorm Sandy.” Sandy left in its wake 71 dead in the Caribbean and 146 in the US. This has been rated the second most expensive storm in US history, second only to Katrina in 2005. In New Jersey alone, 346,000 housing units were either damaged or destroyed. Sandy hit landfall in New Jersey on October 29, 2012. Four years later, there is still a need for volunteers.  43% of the households in New York and New Jersey that filed for federal aid reported incomes under $30,000. Of those who hope to rebuild, many fear that they won’t be able to afford to build according to the new codes. There is still much work to do and you can help!

We will stay at Morning Star Presbyterian Church in Bayville NJ.  There is air conditioning in the church, along with sleeping cots, showers, a washer and dryer and a full kitchen for our use.  We will be supported by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, including a leader who guides our group through the week together. Devotionals connecting the work we are doing with our discipleship in Christ are provided by the OGPC/CHPC leadership.

Each participant will fill out a Medical Form that includes Insurance Information and any other pertinent information (e.g. allergies, special needs, etc.). These will be handed out at a later date, along with a packing list. Registration is $150.00 payable below or check made out to your church with Jersey Shore in the memo portion, and turned into your church office.
