History History Sue Tintle

The First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich Township, affectionately known as "Old Greenwich," joyfully celebrates its 275th year.

Our History Committee has planned a year of exciting worship, events, and activities to honor our past and to lift up our continued mission and ministry in the community and beyond. Please join us at these - or simply worship with us any Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.

  • Sunday, April 19, 2015 - at 8:30 a.m. our Confirmation Class and 50 Year Members (That's right! We have many congregants who have been members at OGPC for 50 years or more!) enjoy breakfast before worship
  • Sunday, April 26, 2015 - Fourth Sunday Social - after worship, the History Committee is hosting a light meal followed by a program that shares some aspect of our congregation's history. This month, Sue Tintle will give a presentation on the history of our physical plant - from our beginnings in a log cabin up to today.
  • Sunday, May 24, 2015 - Fourth Sunday Social - topic TBD
  • Saturday, June 6, 2015 - Homecoming Weekend Kick-Off Gathering - former members, friends, pastors, etc. are invited to come together to share stories, food, and fellowship
  • Sunday, June 7, 2015 - Homecoming Worship Service - a celebratory service of worship that includes former pastors, interim pastors, seminary students, etc.
  • Sunday, June 7, 2015 - Homecoming Banquet at the Almond Tree. Tickets are $30.00 and include a bountiful meal as well as a program celebrating our honored guests.
  • Sunday, September 27, 2015 - Fourth Sunday Social - topic TBD
  • Saturday, October 3, 2015 - Maxwell's Brigade does a revolutionary war reenactment on our grounds. General Maxwell is buried in the cemetery on OGPC's grounds.
  • Sunday, October 4, 2015 - the Daughters of the American Revolution present a Graveside Celebration of those soldiers buried in our cemetery who served in the American Revolution followed by cemetery tours for those who are interested.

In addition to these events, the History Committee is also offering postcards of photos from our historic past at 10 for $10.00 (with an extra design free for the first 75 purchasers) and beautiful handcrafted renditions of any of our three church sanctuaries on slates from the old roof for $40.00 each or all three for $100.00. You may speak with History Committee Chair Gregg Pacifico or email us if you are interested.

Celebrate our congregation's culinary history by trying a recipe from our Anniversary Cookbook available for download.
